Broadway Market | Things to Do in London

Last weekend, my friend and I went to Broadway Market, which is in Hackney. I hadn't heard of it, but then again I don't really keep abreast of the London market scene. I'd heard of Spitalfields, Borough and Brick Lane, and that was about it, but I'm glad that I went, because I think you get a much better experience with fewer tourists and fewer cameras getting in the way of your shot!

Broadway Market is a smallish street market, with handmade items (cards, lip balm, baby clothes etc), lots of food and some vintage clothing. I was really impressed with the selection of food on offer, especially the veggie options. I took my camera, since markets are good opportunities to practise depth of field. The weather was, quite honestly, miserable (as you would expect from British wintertime), but once the rain stopped I managed to get some good shots.

The stall holders were all in high spirits, despite the bad weather, and we ate some delicious quinoa burgers, which made the trek there more than worthwhile. We spent most of the time taking pictures, since my friend just got a new camera, and the stall holders didn't seem to mind too much. Well, so long as we didn't linger too long and get in the way of paying customers!

I'm going to let the pictures do the talking, because they're pretty self explanatory. I'd definitely recommend giving Broadway Market a visit if you can- it's not the easiest to get to, but it's worth it to visit an authentic London street market, that's untouched by the commercialism that haunts the bigger London markets. It's the perfect way to while away an afternoon.

Broadway Market
It's times like this where you need a telephoto lens to get in closer...
Sourdough Loaves
The bread of the moment, sourdough
Old Blue Shirts
I watched Brokeback Mountain the other day and these shirts really reminded me of the last scene
Sizzling Meat
The cold weather did make for some impressive steam
Sharon Fruit for Sale
I did brighten this up slightly, since I don't think Sharon Fruit looks good overcast
Judgemental Pigeon Graffiti
Great graffiti in the area- especially this judgemental pigeon
Exchanging cash
It took about 10 shots to get an actual transaction
Bread Stall
Mmm bread. That's all I have to say...
A selection of dips
I like to pretend I went to Morocco, instead of East London
Hummus
Hummus really is delicious
Olives etc
I really liked these pots, ok?
Veggie Burger
This was a delicious quinoa burger! Yum
Skins?
The park next to the market- a little Skins-esque?
